I wish you were here
For me to lean on you
For you to wipe my tear.
I wish you were close,
Guiding my way
Making sure I don’t stray
Making sure I am ready for the final day.
Holding my hand in times of struggle
Pulling me out from under the rubble.
I wish you could hear my words
My stories of life and hearts too cold
I wish you could hear my cry
Then see me laugh
Then watch me try.
I wish I had been there with you
To see how you were,
How you struggled for me to be
How you were a gift for humanity.
I wish I could hear you speak
Your words in my ears…
Your hand to give me strength when I’m weak
Your light to scare away my fears
I wish I had seen your face
So pleasant and delightful,
It made the moon live in disgrace
In your world of peace,
In your world of faith…
I wish I had been there.
After all, I’m back here again,
And I’ll be here till the end.
